The Egyptienne was the beginning of the 19th Century England in response to the increased demand for eye-catching signage. The first was published in 1815 by Egyptienne Vincent Figgins. Mentioned for the first time the slab serif font in a few types of printing in 1820, and that in a list of auction type foundry Thorne.
