More info from David Rakowski
Harting is a typewriter font by David Rakowski (1992) — monospaced letters that look typed on a machine whose ribbon is running out, some keys a little crooked. Two cuts: the original and Harting II (Plain), which straightens most of the crooked letters. Full alphabet and digits. Made for letters, journals, and vintage documents.
From the designer: Harting (named for Julie Harting 'for no apparent reason') was 'AreaCodeWare' — Rakowski jokingly asked users to donate their area code in dollars and cents (Vermont's 802 = $8.02) to Columbia University for the Columbia Composers student concerts.
